About Winc

Why Winc?

As members of an educational and research institution, we at the University of North Dakota Research Foundation (UNDRF) understand the concerns of both students and teachers when it comes to how best to integrate technology into the classroom. No one can deny how ubiquitous technology has become in the daily lives of students, and that ubiquitousness is quickly spreading into the classroom. Winc was developed in an attempt to fill that niche.

What is Winc For?

More than a simple application, Winc is intended as a fully developed platform whose use we see as being able to support and complement the learning process. Educators and students alike have benefited from the elegant and speedy ability to take their thoughts and material, create learning assets, and take them with them wherever they go. People have used Winc for storyboards, for research, for preparing speeches, and much much more.

Are you the first?

Part of the power of Winc is that is is unique without being completely new. Students, teachers and people from all other walks of life have used index and flash cards for decades. It is a proven system for learning, and its transition to the digital realm was an inevitability. We were not the first to leverage its power, but we would like to think that we are among the best in doing so.

Why is Winc better than traditional index cards?

Simple really. Typing is much faster than writing. Winc also allows you to create and store an unlimited number of cards and sets as well as the ability to take those sets anywhere when used in combination with Winc Mobile. Winc even allows you to print out your sets, if hard copy cards are more to your liking. Organization is also a snap. Winc lets you group sets, edit cards, and manipulate your collection easier and faster than you ever could on a desk with thousands of cards spilled out in front of you.

Collaboration

From the beginning Winc was intended for collaboration between people. We built in the ability to not only share materials with yourself, but with the world at large. You can email sets to other Winc users and broadcast them to others on you network. You can generate PDF versions and send them to friends. We all know how much easier it is to learn when you get friends involved, and Winc was built around that fact. Stay tuned for our oncoming Repository and you'll see the full power of the Winc community in action.

Students

Students are the primary motivator behind Winc. We want to make the learning process as effective as possible. Providing students with the ability to learn at their own pace using the very technology that they access on a daily basis is our primary mission is making Winc the best it can possibly be. Student can use Winc to study for tests, quickly pick up vocabulary, or even write notes while in the classroom for easier access on the go with Winc Mobile. Students taking the same class can even share materials with one another, modify each others sets, and create more powerful learning materials than they could have alone. Many teachers make Power Point™ presentations available to their students, using Winc those presentations can be converted for mobile learning, allowing students to catch up on valuable lectures.
